To see the whole picture, you can also take a hike along the Honoapiilani Highway and enjoy the view. 2. Beach Bumming in Kekaha Kai State Park Kekaha Kai State Park is located on Hawaii Big Island. With a great location, you can see the ocean from almost everywhere in the park. Here, you can enjoy a nice view and get away from the busy life. The Green Sand Beach The Green Sand Beach is located on the south side of the island. Exploring the Kilauea Volcano Hawaii is famous for its active volcanoes, and this one in particular has been erupting since 1983. However, it was only in the last six months that the volcano became extremely active, resulting in a major eruption on May 3, 2018. The lava flows destroyed at least 20 homes and buried a road, and scientists believe that more homes could be buried. There is no danger of an imminent eruption at the moment, but the volcanic activity could continue for weeks or months. This is the reason why it’s important to prepare before you go. 6. Staring at a River of Fresh Lava One of the most amazing things to do on Hawaii Big Island is watching the lava flow into the ocean. Although it is very scary, it is also a great experience for everyone. There are many ways you can observe the lava flow. You can watch from the top of a volcano, or you can simply sit at a lookout. The best spot to watch the lava flow is on Mauna Loa. When the lava flows, you can see it start at the bottom of the volcano and rise up the mountain. You’ll see a huge explosion, and then a huge column of lava will slowly move down the mountain. You can also see the lava flow at the sea level, which is quite fascinating. The lava flows into the ocean, and it creates a river of lava. As the lava moves down the shore, it can reach the ocean floor. Lava can sometimes even hit the water and create a wave. 7. Getting Close to Nature at Waipio Valley Waipio Valley is the largest protected area in Hawaii. It is located at the end of Waipio Road and offers spectacular views.
