In 2022, video games have become one of the fastest growing and most lucrative industries in the world. Mobile games, once associated with casual gaming, are now increasingly popular and their community is growing over the years. Mobile phones have become increasingly powerful through the years and can now run much more sophisticated games, allowing them to offer a strong alternative to consoles and PCs. Now, participating in esport competitions on mobile phones has never been easier, and many professional structures have decided to invest in this discipline.

Mobile E-sports

Some competitive games have already found their audience and their place among the most popular games, starting with PUBG Mobile, Fortnite Battle Royale or Call of Duty Mobile. Competitions have started to emerge to celebrate the rise of this new discipline, giving new ideas to development studios!

The Red Bull MEO (the acronym for Mobile Esports Open) is now considered as the biggest esport tournament on mobile and is sponsored, as its name indicates, by the brand with big wings!

The interest of a non-endemic brand in the mobile games industry is a great sign for the long-term development of the industry. With a very large market share, especially in Asia, there is no doubt that mobile esport competitions should become more and more recurrent in the years to come. For some time now, it has even been possible to bet on e-sports in the same way as bet games on traditional sports such as football or tennis. This shows just how seriously video game competitions are considered.

The advent of mobile games

For a long time, mobile games have been looked down upon or belittled, associated with casual gaming and therefore of almost mediocre quality. It is undeniable that mobile phones have long lagged behind in terms of graphics quality and processing speed, compared to consoles or computers, which are its two main competitors.

The development of these mobile games was less meticulous and much less ambitious than that of its competitors. However, things have taken a very different turn and it is now clear that the future of gaming will be in mobile games! 68.1% of internet users play games on their smartphones, putting the phone in the lead over computers and consoles.

Which games?

The leading games in mobile esports are :

  • League of Legend: Wild Rift
  • Hearthstone
  • Arena of Valor – Honor of Kings
  • Summoners War
  • Brawl Stars
  • Clash Royale

They are not likely to be dethroned as their community is constantly growing!
