How can I update my FAFSA tax information?

After filing your return, you’ll need to update tax data you have collected from the prior year. You can access the “Financial Information” section of “My FAFSA”. Change “Will File” from “Already Completed.”

FAFSA will provide you with a list of steps to follow. You will see a button that links to the IRS if you are allowed to use the IRS data retrieval tool. If you are not allowed to use the IRS data recovery tool, you will see a “Link to IRS” button. Otherwise, you will need to manually enter the data from your entire tax return. Do not forget to include any information that corresponds with your tax return.

To retrieve your IRS information, you must log in to the IRS if you are eligible for the IRS link. To complete the transfer, check the box “Transfer my tax information FAFSA”.

After you have returned to the FAFSA, make sure that all information has been transferred correctly. However, do not change the display. You can then sign your FAFSA and resubmit it. FAFSA.
