Many different art styles have emerged over the years; some are more popular than others, but it’s important to be familiar with them all. The more we know, the more we can appreciate the different ways that artists interpret the world around us. With this in mind, here are some art styles that everybody should know in 2022. Impressionism
Impressionism is a style of painting that originated in France in the late 19th century. Impressionist paintings are characterized by their soft, dreamy atmospheres and light-filled scenes. The most famous impressionist painters include Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Camille Pissarro. Over the years, impressionism has influenced everything from fashion to architecture.
Art Nouveau
Art Nouveau is an ornamental style of art that emerged at a similar time to impressionism. Art Nouveau artists were known for their use of curvaceous lines, nature-inspired motifs, and bright colours. Some of the most famous Art Nouveau artists include Alphonse Mucha, Gustav Klimt, and Antoni Gaudí.
Cubism
Cubism was an avant-garde art movement that began in the early 20th century, and most people think of Pablo Picasso when they think of cubism. Cubist artists were known for their geometric compositions, which often included fractured objects and faces. Other famous cubist artists include Georges Braque and Juan Gris. However, how can we ignore the work of Pablo Picasso? After all, he was the artist who popularized this art movement. Just some of Picasso’s works include “Les Demoiselles d’Avignon” and “Guernica.”
Pop Art
Next, we come to a more modern art movement that emerged in the 1950s and 1960s. The name comes from the word “popular,” because pop artists sought to incorporate elements of popular culture into their work. Some of the most famous pop artists include Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Claes Oldenburg. For example, Warhol’s work includes famous images like Campbell’s soup cans and Marilyn Monroe. Lichtenstein, on the other hand, was known for his comic book-style paintings.
Aboriginal Art
If you want an art style steeped in history, then you can’t go wrong with Aboriginal art. This style of art is associated with the indigenous people of Australia, and it dates back more than 60,000 years. Aboriginal art is characterized by its use of symbols, which were used to convey stories and beliefs. This form of art is also unique in that it was often created on the ground, using natural materials like ochre and sand.
Surrealism
As the name suggests, surrealism is an art style that’s characterized by its dream-like quality. Fauvism
